San Ignacio Extended Stay
There is a legendary lagoon on the Pacific coast of Baja Mexico that is spoken of in hushed whispers, where gray whales finish an 11,000 mile migration from the Bering Sea and Alaska to mate and calve each year.
The gray whales here are uniquely curious and interactive, allowing for close-up, intimate encounters with these gentle giants and their newborn calves.
This is San Ignacio Lagoon, one of only 4 mating and birthing lagoons in the world, with the highest concentration of sociable whales, and the only lagoon still untouched by human development.
Many of our guests have told us that 4 days and 3 nights is just too short. They might have got in as many as 9 gray whale encounters but they are not ready and don’t want to go home. These special trips feature additional days in camp with a load more of whale watching.
San Ignacio Extended Stay - Sample Itinerary
- Fly into SJD International Airport
The day before your trip starts. Complimentary photo and video workshop at SeeCreatures Cabo at 9:30 am. Afternoon ocean safari searching out humpback whales at 1:00 pm.
Day 1: Meet the Gray Whales!
6:45 am pickup to FBO executive airport terminal. 1 Hour 50-minute flight to the airstrip at camp. Brunch at camp and then out for your first whale encounters on the lagoon.
Day 2 – 5: San Ignacio Lagoon
Early breakfast and 07:30 panga ride to get an early start on 2 whale watching encounters. Lunch. Relax. One more afternoon whale-watching encounter. Cocktail hour around the fire pit as the sun goes down. Evening presentation by one of our naturalists. Dinner.
Day 6: Return to Cabo
Early breakfast and one more whale-watching encounter before your 1-hour 40-minute flight back to Cabo at 12:30 arrival at the SJD FBO.
