Bariloche & The Lakes
Now fully recovered from the terrible ash damage of 2011, the Lake District is a wonderful part of the country. The area round Bariloche has some of the country's best day walks and our trekking guides are top notch. Spend a day gently paddling on the turquoise waters of Nahuel Huapi Lake, and then retire at night to one of the many fantastic properties just on the Bustillo Avenue that snakes around the shore.
Bariloche is the definitely the main hub in Argentina's Lake District, but it is by no means the only base to use - to the north the peaceful alpine-style towns of Villa la Angostura, San Martín de los Andes have some wonderful places to stay and are well worth exploring. The so-called Seven Lakes drive from la Angostura to San Martin is one of the region's highlights - huge bodies of water lie scattered amongst the towering Andean peaks. The snow capped mountains and forested slopes reflect in the tranquil surface of the lakes.
