Barra Lodge, the flagship lodge of the Praia Do Barra area, is set in one of the most picturesque areas in Mozambique, with spectacular views of pristine beaches and the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Barra Lodge offers accommodation that would suit all types of travellers. Barra has wide, white and walkable beaches and is bordered by the Inhambane estuary on one side, and the sea on the other. The lodge is nestled amongst groves of coconut trees with the warm Indian Ocean offering safe bathing all year round.

Barra caters mainly for families with children and divers who have come to experience Mozambiques unique Manta Coast diving. The Lodge is geared towards fun and activities for the whole family.

From the historical city of Inhambane it is only a 30 minute drive to Barra Lodge and transfers are done by the lodge staff.
Barra has secluded, unspoilt beaches, and is bordered by the Inhambane estuary on one side and the sea on the other. The lodge is nestled amongst groves of coconut trees and the warm Indian Ocean offers safe bathing all year round.  Wide open, sun-drenched beaches offer endless hours of strolling pleasure.

Accommodation

Casitas: Our traditional Casitas are made of thatch, brick and reeds creating a charming atmosphere, fitted with a double bed and one single bed, fans and mosquito nets, a shower and toilet en-suite. These units are 80m walk to the water and can be let on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The casitas are serviced daily.

Beach Chalets: Situated on the beach, these Beach Chalets have air conditioners, are fitted with mosquito nets and have a bar fridge. One double bed and a separate room with two bunk beds suitable for children. The beach chalets boast beautiful views of the water, two loungers on a small stoop and being only a few metres away from the dive centre and facilities of Barra, these units are in a prime position.

Self Catering Cottages: Each Self Catering Cottage has two bedrooms, living area, kitchen, shower and separate toilet. There are six comfortable single beds. The shower has hot and cold water. All the basic amenities are supplied including a fridge, 2 plate gas stove, cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, utensils, mosquito net and bed linen. There are braai facilities at the cottages. The cottages are serviced daily.

Self Catering Cabanas: Nine luxury Self Catering Cabana units. Each unit has three ensuite bedrooms, lounge area, fully equipped kitchen, showers, baths and toilets. Each unit also has its own private inifinity pool, braai facility and Dstv. The units are serviced daily.

Diving

Diving off Mozambique's Manta Coast offers some of the most impressive dive sites in the world. With the warm Indian Ocean reefs attracting a variety of larger fish including Manta Ray, whaleshark, moray eels and giant lobster. While the coral serves as a playground to myriads of brilliantly coloured smaller fish including schooling banner fish, Domino's, Lion Fish, Octopus, Barred Sweetlips, Goldies, and Trigger Fish. With the diverse structure of the reefs from the cleaning stations of 'Office', to the ascent on the impressive 'Giants Castle', reef pinnacles, overhangs, coral arches and much more can be expected.

Sea temperature can vary between 30°C in summer to 21°C in winter and reef depths may vary from 10m to 40m and offer good visibility and fantastic photo opportunities. Not only of the incredible range of coral but of over 6,000 species of fish.

Above the waves, dolphins are frequently encountered as are leatherback, loggerhead and green turtle. Humpback whales can be sighted between August and October while the lucky few may get to marvel at the sight of the rare dugong. Barra welcomes all levels of divers and lessons can be arranged for both beginners and intermediates offering at PADI 5 star IDC (Instructor Development Course) Centre status with unsurpassed professional service excellence.
